Was killed in a vehicle accident on his way to a false alarm. A full civic funeral was accorded to him by the City of Roxboro on October 3, 1961.
There is a park named in his honour in Roxboro on 11th Avenue near Gouin (near the spot where he died) which was dedicated shortly after his death.
