David Gorton, Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, November 1952 - October 2024
David joined the Canadian Navy in 1969 and served on HMCS Margaree until 1975. In 1975 he joined the National Defence Fire Service in Nova Scotia, serving at CFB Mill Cove, Hubbards, CFAD Bedford Magazine and CFB Halifax Dockyard, which included CFAV Firebird (YTR 561), retiring, as Platoon Chief in 2008.
He volunteered at the Hubbards District Fire Department for 10 years ending as Fire Chief in 1997. He served as Executive Director/Treasurer of the Nova Scotia Fire Fighters Burn Treatment Society for 11 years, stepping down in 2013. “Davey” was a well known and popular person at Camp Connect, the summer camp for survivors of burn injuries, sponsored by the Society, which he helped organize and operate.
Dave came from a large, blended family of seven brothers and two sisters and is survived by Roseina Matheson; son, Ted (Carol); daughter, Tammy; and three grandchildren.
