Story

Anthony “Paul” Dober March 15, 1954 – March 5, 2016

Paul joined the Halifax Fire Department in 1978 and dedicated 29 years of service before retiring in 2007 as a Firefighter Engineer. A proud member of IAFF Local 268, he served as Union President for 7 years and as Vice President for 3 years, tirelessly advocating for fairness, transparency and the well-being of all members.

During his leadership, Paul helped guide the union through the significant transition when Halifax and surrounding communities amalgamated to form the Halifax Regional Municipality. He was also deeply involved in fundraising and community events, always willing to lend his time and support to causes that mattered.

After retirement, Paul was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer, a presumptive occupational cancer associated with the firefighting profession. His death was quick and sad leaving behind his wife, two daughters and their families to mourn him.

Paul will be remembered for his dedication, leadership, integrity, and unwavering commitment to his fellow firefighters, his community and his family.
