Alan Robert Golden
Firefighter
Story
Alan R. Golden
My Story
Alan died from an occupational-related illness on October 22, 2024.
As a child, Alan dreamed of becoming a policeman and a firefighter. He achieved this dream, becoming an OPP Officer and then a Firefighter.
Alan joined the Sudbury Fire Department in 1975 and over his 27-year career worked as a Firefighter, Platoon Trainer, Fire Prevention Officer, A/Captain, and College Instructor. He was known as “Big Al” and “Goldie”. He worked and studied hard to be one of the best and share his experiences with upcoming recruits. He was a proud, skilled, and dedicated Firefighter.
Behind the uniform, Alan was a gentle giant. He was a compassionate man always willing to help a stranger, neighbour, or family member in need. He had a kind smile and a hello for everyone.
Alan married his high-school sweetheart and was a caring and loving husband for 54 years. His kids and grandchildren were his greatest pride and joy. He was a proud dad and poppa. There are many cherished memories of his involvement with each of them.
During his senior years, Alan enjoyed RVing down south with his beloved wife. They later enjoyed a slower, quieter life in Sudbury with regular “Timmies” outings and visits to Bell Park. He enjoyed doing puzzles, watching TV, and keeping an eye out for hummingbirds.
Alan’s passing leaves a significant void in the lives he touched. He is sorely missed, though his legacy lives on – his name inscribed on the CFFF memorial wall. Alan will be ‘always in our thoughts, forever in our hearts’.
